Twenty-one instances of the newly identified Covid variant JN.1 have been officially confirmed through laboratory tests in India.

India has officially documented a total of 21 cases of the recently identified coronavirus variant, JN.1, spanning various regions of the country, as confirmed by VK Paul, a member of the government think tank NITI Aayog focused on health. Notably, Goa has reported 19 instances of the JN.1 variant, while Maharashtra and Kerala have each reported one case, according to reliable sources.

In response to the escalating Covid cases in certain areas of the country, Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya conducted a comprehensive review of the COVID-19 situation and evaluated the readiness of public health systems.

Mr. Mandaviya emphasized the importance of staying vigilant and adequately prepared to address new and evolving strains of the coronavirus. This statement was relayed through an official communication from the Health and Family Welfare Ministry today.

The Health Minister has urged seamless collaboration between the Central government and states to ensure the effective handling of the ongoing COVID-19 situation. Emphasizing proactive measures, the minister proposed conducting mock drills every three months at both central and state levels, with a focus on sharing and implementing best practices.

Highlighting the continued presence of COVID-19, the minister cautioned states to remain vigilant. It was stressed that monitoring emerging evidence related to COVID-19 cases, symptoms, and case severity is crucial for planning an appropriate and timely public health response. The minister emphasized that, despite progress, the battle against COVID-19 is not over, and sustained efforts are necessary for effective management.
