Starting at Dubai’s Love Lake, the Bengaluru-based marathoner embarked on his run that culminated at the iconic Burj Khalifa, the tallest building globally.

In an inspiring act to spotlight the urgency of climate change, Aakash Nambiar, a 34-year-old ultra-marathoner hailing from Bengaluru, undertook a remarkable barefoot run spanning 104 kilometres in Dubai. His impressive feat took 17 hours and 20 minutes to complete, starting at Love Lake in Al Qudra at sunrise and concluding at the iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

Nambiar took to Instagram to recount his incredible 100-kilometer run through Dubai, the dazzling city of towering skyscrapers! Beginning at Love Lake after sunrise, his journey culminated at the iconic Burj Khalifa, weaving through prominent landmarks like Palm Jumeirah, Burj Al Arab, Kite Beach, Jumeirah Beach, La Mer Beach, Etihad Museum, and the Museum of Future, totalling an impressive distance of approximately 104 kilometres.

In a brief statement, he outlined the motivation behind his run. “My goal was to shed light on the urgency of climate change and raise awareness among everyday individuals. Running became my chosen platform to proclaim ‘WE ARE RUNNING OUT OF TIME’ to prompt action. Additionally, I aimed to advocate for a healthy, sustainable lifestyle, opting to cover the entire distance barefoot, except for the final portions during night-time.”

In his closing remarks, he justified his decision to run in Dubai, citing the recent conclusion of COP28 in the city. He emphasized, “Why Dubai? With the urgency of limiting global warming to 1.5°C within possibly five years post-COP28, there remains a widespread lack of awareness.”
