London:

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak embraced the Christmas spirit with a whimsical skit inspired by the 1990s Hollywood film ‘Home Alone.’ Shared on social media with the message “Merry Christmas from Downing Street,” the 43-year-old British Indian-origin leader humorously showcased his festive side. In the video, Sunak is depicted diligently working at his desk at 10 Downing Street when he pauses to ponder, “Am I the only one here?” Realizing he is home alone, he indulges in a celebration by bowling a ball against stacked cans of Coca Cola, his favorite drink. The festive antics continue as he enjoys a plate of spaghetti with maple syrup while watching the 2003 Christmas film ‘Elf.’ The lighthearted skit aims to bring joy during the holiday season.

Adding to the festive humor, Downing Street’s resident cat, Larry, joins Rishi Sunak for company in the skit. As the telephone rings in the press office, Sunak playfully informs a certain “Harry” that it’s a wrong number. This is believed to be a witty reference to Harry Cole, the political editor of the ‘Sun’ newspaper. The inclusion of such playful elements adds a touch of lightheartedness to the quirky Christmas skit.

The brief 72-second video, posted on X on Monday, drew comparisons to the 2003 Christmas film ‘Love Actually.’ In this film, actor Hugh Grant, portraying a British Prime Minister, performs a humorous dance through the vacant corridors of 10 Downing Street.

Rishi Sunak, sharing more about his holiday plans with ‘Politico,’ revealed that on Christmas Day, he takes charge of preparing the traditional turkey roast dinner after enjoying festive films with his daughters Krishna and Anoushka on Christmas Eve. Sunak mentioned, “I always brine then cook the turkey, I hate the cooking, but no one else will do it! And watch ‘The Snowman’ with my daughters on Christmas Eve followed by ‘The Holiday’ on Christmas Day.”

Rishi Sunak, married to Akshata Murty, daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy and author Sudha Murty, is celebrating Christmas with his family in their constituency home in Richmond, North Yorkshire. In the lead-up to the festive holiday period in the UK, spanning from the weekend until Tuesday, Sunak was spotted purchasing boxes of mince pies and sweet Christmas treats. These goodies were intended for key workers in Yorkshire, reflecting a gesture of appreciation for their contributions.
