In her plea, she stated that she was denied the opportunity to seek counsel of her choice for her defence in the remand proceedings.

Neelam Azad, the accused in the Parliament security breach, has filed a plea with the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, requesting an urgent release.

Azad has contested the legality of the remand order issued on December 21. In her plea, she highlighted that she was denied the opportunity to consult a legal representative of her choice for her defence during the remand proceedings. She stated that legal counsel was only made available to her 29 hours after she was arrested.

Azad, among the six individuals apprehended by authorities in connection with the breach of security at the Lok Sabha, had been residing in Hisar pursuing further education.

Neelam Azad, aged 37 and hailing from Ghaso Khurd village, was reportedly taken into custody alongside wrestler Sakshi Malik’s mother and farmer leader Sikkim Nain during the farmers’ protests.

Discussing Neelam’s arrest, her brother Ramniwas informed PTI, “I received a call from my elder brother urging me to immediately turn on the television. He informed me about Neelam’s arrest in Delhi.”

“Her Haryana Teachers Eligibility Test certificate had lapsed, prompting her brother to advise her to seek coaching in Hisar for its renewal,” he mentioned.

Ramniwas highlighted his sister’s recent visit to the village after successfully clearing the National Eligibility Test (NET). However, her discussions during the visit didn’t touch upon the Parliament protest. Neelam’s mother revealed, “She spoke to me this morning, urging me to stay consistent with my medication. We had no prior knowledge of her trip to Delhi.”

Expressing uncertainty about her motivations, she speculated, “Perhaps her actions were driven by the goal of securing employment.”

Azad had journeyed to Hisar about 5-6 months earlier to prepare for the Haryana civil services examination.

Six months prior to her apprehension, Azad, unemployed at the time, devotedly focused on competitive exam preparations while living in a Delhi paying guest facility. Hailing from the Kumhar community, her father’s profession lies in confectionery, while both her brothers are engaged in selling milk in their village.
