Amidst the ongoing conflict in Gaza, a surge of posters, stickers, and leaflets in the occupied West Bank is encouraging Palestinians to boycott Israeli products in favor of locally-made goods. The campaign’s slogan, “By us, for us,” has gained prominence in various towns in recent weeks, aligning with the increasing global calls to ban Israeli goods. At a well-known supermarket chain in the West Bank, products labeled “Made in Palestine,” including water, milk, and toilet paper, are prominently displayed, reflecting a growing movement to support local products and boycott those from Israel.

Omar Bawatneh, the manager of a branch in Ramallah, emphasized that the campaign’s focus is on promoting Palestinian products. The supermarket chain estimates a 30 percent decline in sales of Israeli products since the onset of the conflict between Israel and Hamas.

The war escalated on October 7 when Hamas launched an attack on southern Israel, resulting in approximately 1,140 casualties, predominantly civilians, according to an AFP tally based on official figures. Palestinian militants also took around 250 people to the Gaza Strip, with Israel reporting that 129 remain there.

In response, Israel initiated a comprehensive assault on Gaza, involving land, sea, and air operations, pledging to eliminate Hamas. The offensive has led to the deaths of over 20,900 people, predominantly women and children, as per Gaza’s health ministry.

Violence in the West Bank, under Israeli occupation since 1967, has also intensified since the commencement of the war.

Over 300 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces and settlers since the commencement of the Gaza war, as reported by the Palestinian health ministry in Ramallah.

In response to the conflict, a notable shift has been observed at supermarkets throughout the occupied territory, with a growing number of young people developing a heightened political awareness and opting to support Palestinian products, according to Bawatneh.
