Around 1pm on Monday, in Ran village, an incident occurred while a young girl was playing near her home.

A tragic incident unfolded in Gujarat’s Devbhumi Dwarka district on Monday when a toddler fell into an open borewell. Despite an extensive eight-hour rescue effort involving multiple agencies, the young girl, identified as Angel Sakhra, was retrieved unconscious and, sadly, passed away before reaching the hospital. District collector Ashok Sharma confirmed that the two-and-a-half-year-old was unconscious when she was finally rescued from the 30-feet deep borewell.

Dr. Ketan Bharathi, the resident medical officer at Jam Khambhaliya General Hospital, reported that a pediatrician from the hospital was part of the medical team present at the incident site. According to Dr. Bharathi, immediate treatment commenced for the girl as soon as she was rescued from the borewell and was swiftly transported to the hospital in an ambulance. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, she passed away before reaching the hospital.

The tragic event occurred around 1 pm while the girl was playing near her residence in Ran village on Monday. She fell into an abandoned borewell located close to her house, prompting her family and neighbors to respond upon hearing her cries for help. They discovered her trapped approximately 30 feet below the ground.

Sharma, a spokesperson, mentioned that the initial rescue operation was led by revenue and police officers, who soon realized the need for additional assistance. Civic authorities from Jamnagar and volunteers from Reliance Industries extended their support to the rescue efforts.

A bystander, who had been following the rescue operation through local television channels, arrived at the site equipped with a night vision camera. Sharma highlighted the value of this gesture, stating that the camera aided in closely monitoring the child’s situation. Despite attempts to extract the child using a loop mechanism, complications arose, and she became lodged midway in the process, Sharma explained.

An NDRF official detailed the efforts made to rescue the girl, including securing her hand with a rope and utilizing an L-shaped hook for stability. Despite parallel digging efforts, unfortunately, they were unable to save her. The girl tragically succumbed to the situation around 10:30 pm.
