Tata Motors maintained its robust performance in the domestic market, achieving its all-time high passenger vehicle (PV) volume in a calendar year (CY) in 2023. This surpasses the previous record set in 2022. The indigenous automaker recorded a domestic PV volume of 550,838 units in CY23, reflecting a year-on-year (y-o-y) growth of 4.56%. It’s important to note that this figure encompasses electric vehicle (EV) wholesales within the domestic market.

Tata Motors boasts a robust PV (Passenger Vehicle) portfolio encompassing both Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) and Electric Vehicle (EV) models. The ICE lineup comprises Tiago, Altroz, Tigor, Punch, Nexon, Harrier, and Safari. On the EV front, there’s Tiago.ev, Tigor.ev, and Nexon.ev. In CY23, Tata Motors introduced facelift versions of Nexon, Nexon.ev, Harrier, and Safari.

“The PV industry is anticipated to achieve record-breaking sales in CY23, surpassing the significant 4 million mark. This growth is fueled by a strong supply situation, the introduction of new SUV models, and robust demand during an extended festive period,” stated Shailesh Chandra, Managing Director of Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.

“Despite a high baseline, the industry experienced single-digit overall growth, with noteworthy increases observed in eco-friendly product categories. The EV and CNG segments recorded growth rates exceeding 90% and 25%, respectively, indicating a growing inclination towards green and smart technologies among Indian customers,” he added.

Chandra highlighted that CY23 marked the third consecutive year of Tata Motors achieving its highest-ever sales. The company’s dominance in the compact SUV segment and substantial growth in hatchbacks contributed to this success, even as the hatchback segment faced a decline at an industry level.

Tata Motors holds a leading position in the compact SUV segment with models like Punch and Nexon, while its hatchbacks, Tiago and Altroz, have demonstrated commendable volume growth over recent years.
