Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates Trichy Airport Terminal, launches projects worth ₹20,000 crore

Prime Minister Modi recently unveiled the new terminal structure at Tiruchirappalli International Airport.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for multiple development projects in Tamil Nadu’s Tiruchirappalli, totaling over ₹20,000 crore in investment across aviation, rail, road, oil and gas, shipping, and higher education sectors.

Among these initiatives was the unveiling of the new terminal building at Tiruchirappalli International Airport, constructed at a cost exceeding ₹1100 crore. The two-level terminal boasts a capacity to accommodate over 44 lakh passengers annually, with the capability to serve approximately 3,500 individuals during peak hours, as per the Prime Minister’s Office.

Addressing the audience, PM Modi conveyed his hope for a peaceful and prosperous 2024 for all, highlighting the significance of commencing his public engagements in Tamil Nadu. He commended the developmental strides, emphasizing the approximately ₹20,000 crore projects as crucial for Tamil Nadu’s advancement.

Expressing condolences for the lives lost and property damage due to recent rains and floods in the state, PM Modi assured the central government’s steadfast support during this challenging period, affirming assistance to the Tamil Nadu government.

Accompanied by Chief Minister MK Stalin and Governor RN Ravi, PM Modi participated in the Bharathidasan University’s 38th Convocation Ceremony. Referencing poet Bharathidasan’s ‘Puthiyathor Ulagam Seivom’ verses, encapsulating the university’s motto of creating a courageous new world, PM Modi praised Indian youth for their contributions. He lauded Indian scientists for their global recognition, citing missions like Chandrayaan-3, and highlighted the surge in patents from around 4,000 in 2014 to nearly 50,000, credited to innovative minds.

The Prime Minister’s itinerary includes a two-day tour of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and the Union Territory of Lakshadweep from January 2-3.
