The implementation of the Academic Bank of Credits (ABC) in India has seen significant success, with over three crore (30 million) students registering for the platform, according to the University Grants Commission (UGC). The ABC serves as a digital repository for students’ credit records, enabling them to seamlessly access their academic scores and facilitating smooth transitions between educational institutions.

The ABC portal plays a crucial role in promoting flexibility in curriculum frameworks and encouraging interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary academic mobility among Indian Higher Educational Institutes (HEIs) through a credit transfer system. This initiative is aligned with the National Credit Framework, providing students with more choices and opportunities for education.

The UGC official highlighted the importance of the ABC platform for the successful implementation of the National Credit Framework. Under this framework, if a student completes any course during their studies, the credits earned will be deposited in the Academic Bank of Credits. This system simplifies the process for students transferring from one university or college to another.

The official mentioned that the UGC is actively communicating with universities and colleges to ensure that every student has an account on the ABC platform. Regular monitoring is also being conducted to track the progress of student registrations.

Students are encouraged to upload their credits, transcripts, and certificates to their academic accounts on the ABC platform. The implementation of a four-year course in graduation, along with the option for multiple entry and exit points during the course, has further enhanced the educational experience for students. Previously, students faced challenges in transferring between institutions, but with the National Credit Framework provisions, the process has become more streamlined, allowing students to shift between institutes more easily and resume their studies with the provision of multiple entry and exit points.
