In 2022, the CBI launched a case against former forest department employees. They’re accused of moving ₹223 crore from the department’s bank account into a fake one.

The lieutenant governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, has allowed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to investigate two officials from the Delhi government’s forests and wildlife department. The investigation is regarding a corruption case involving ₹223 crore, as confirmed by officials from the LG’s office on Wednesday.

In 2022, the CBI started a case against former forest department officials Parasnath Yadav and Alam Singh Rawat. They were accused of working together with LA Khan, who was the senior manager at the Bank of Baroda’s Paharganj branch, and others. Allegedly, they moved ₹223 crore from the forest and wildlife department’s account to a fake savings account at the same bank branch. This transfer was made using a fake letter from the department of forests and wildlife, claiming to be issued by the LG office.

However, investigators are still trying to understand why the money was transferred, according to officials familiar with the situation.

Yadav, a high-ranking officer, currently works as the pay and accounts officer in the principal accounts office of the Delhi government. Rawat currently holds the position of accounts officer at Bhagwan Mahavir Hospital in Pitampura. The request to the LG for permission under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act for a CBI investigation was made by the directorate of vigilance through the National Capital Civil Services Authority.

In a separate incident, the LG authorized the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) to investigate two nurses from GB Pant Hospital regarding a bribery case involving ₹60,000. The accused nurses allegedly demanded ₹60,000 from two fellow nursing officers in exchange for granting them “light duty,” as per the ACB. Furthermore, one of the nursing officers claimed that both accused individuals had taken ₹42,000 for exempting them from duty at the Covid-19 desk.
