Subtle design is truly an art form, aiming to achieve simplicity without succumbing to monotony. The Bridgestone Super RAP Evo wheels serve as a prime example of mastering understated styling, resurrecting a classic Japanese offering from the 1980s. Now, these wheels are making a comeback and are poised to adorn your classic Mazda Miata or Toyota Corolla.

Upon initial inspection, the RAP Evo may appear as a white-painted rendition of a classic steel wheel, typically utilized as a spare or for mounting winter tires. However, appearances can be deceptive. Contrary to the first impression, these wheels are crafted from aluminum, and the circular openings around the rim serve a significant purpose. Bridgestone conceived this design with rally cars and gymkhana competitions in mind, and the smaller holes serve to mitigate the impact of rocks, mud, or debris on brake components, offering a practical advantage over traditional layouts with numerous spokes.

The outcome was the creation of a lightweight wheel that proved to be approximately 30 percent more affordable than products offered by rival brands, as reported by Kyusha Shoes. Originally, they were offered in 13- and 14-inch diameters during the early 1980s, eventually extending to 15 inches later in that decade. Notably, the Super RAP Evos have evolved into a one-piece design from the original two-piece construction. The latest models became available for purchase in early December 2023.

The soft, round shapes don’t give a car an especially aggressive look. However, they have an aesthetic that fits well with certain 1980s and ’90s vehicles like the first-gen Miata and AE86 Toyota Corolla.

Buyers can get them in four configurations:

If you’re in the United States and like this look, the Super RAP Evo wheels are currently available from Rev9 Autosport for $289.99 for each unit in the 15×7 size in the 4×100 bolt pattern, and the 15×7.5 examples in 4×100 are $299.99. Shipping begins in early February 2024.
