The authorities reported confiscating a pistol, a magazine, and a stolen vehicle from Mattoo, as per the police statement.
In the national capital, on Thursday, the Delhi Police Special Cell apprehended Javed Mattoo, a wanted terrorist linked to the Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist group. Mattoo was captured subsequent to a search operation initiated by a team from the National Investigation Agency (NIA), as confirmed by the police.
As per law enforcement, a pistol, magazine, and a stolen vehicle were confiscated from Mattoo.
“Today, the Special Cell of Delhi Police, in a joint effort with central agencies, successfully apprehended Javed Mattoo, a notorious A++ category terrorist with a bounty of ₹10 lakh on his head. Mattoo, hailing from Sopore district in Jammu and Kashmir, stands accused of orchestrating five grenade attacks within the union territory and is directly linked to the tragic killings of five police personnel across separate incidents. Law enforcement officials identify him as one of the few remaining A++ designated terrorists from the Jammu and Kashmir region.
In a notable incident last August, a widely circulated video portrayed Mattoo’s brother, Rayees, proudly hoisting the national flag at their residence in Sopore, Jammu and Kashmir. Rayees expressed his genuine sentiments, stating, ‘I hoisted the Tricolor wholeheartedly. No external pressure influenced this act. Our India is the best in the world, and we are proud inhabitants of this beautiful land.’
Regarding his estranged brother, Rayees revealed, ‘My brother turned to extremism in 2009, and since then, we have lost contact with him. If he is still alive, I earnestly implore him to return. The circumstances have evolved, and Pakistan holds no sway anymore. We were, are, and will always remain Indians at heart.
