Volkswagen will take the wraps off its first SUV under the Scout brand later this year. A teaser video released by Scout confirms this development. The ‘Scout’ moniker has sat dormant since the International Harvester, the original SUV’s manufacturer, retired the model in 1980.
The resurrected Scout SUV brand will initially see a launch in North America, followed by other global markets. The brand had announced earlier that two 4WD EVs will be part of its first set of products.

Volkswagen Scout SUV brand: what’s new?
A teaser video provides glimpses of vintage Scout SUVs and pickups, along with scenic rural landscapes, predominantly from the United States region. These two robust EVs in development will undergo design and manufacturing processes in the US. Anticipate the initial batch of prototypes to be unveiled later this year. The earlier disclosed design sketches offered outlines of both a pickup and a sizable SUV, positioning them as direct competitors to the Rivian R1T and R1S models.
International Harvester Scout: history
The Scout SUV, originally manufactured by International Harvester, known for producing farm and commercial vehicles in North America, had a production span from 1961 to 1980. Serving as the company’s inaugural passenger model, it was also offered in a pickup variant. Competing directly with vehicles such as the Jeep CJ and Ford’s 1965 Bronco, the Scout has a notable place in automotive history.
