Debarghya Das recently took to social media platform X to express his dissatisfaction with IndiGo, recounting what he deemed the “worst flight experience of his life.” In a detailed thread, Das elaborated on the numerous setbacks he encountered during his journey from Kolkata to Bengaluru.

According to his account, the Kolkata to Bengaluru flight experienced a series of delays, amounting to a staggering total of six disruptions and a cumulative delay of seven hours. The extended delays proved to be more than an inconvenience for Das, as he ultimately missed his connecting international flight. In his post, he couldn’t resist taking a dig at IndiGo’s widely known tagline of being ‘always on-time,’ dismissing it as false advertising.

Das specifically highlighted the departure time discrepancy, revealing that his scheduled 10 pm flight finally took off at 4:41 am the next day. This substantial delay not only disrupted his travel plans but also had significant repercussions for his subsequent international journey.

In response to the social media outcry, IndiGo expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to Das and promptly initiated a refund of the entire ticket amount. The airline acknowledged the challenges faced by the passenger and vowed to address the situation, emphasizing their commitment to customer satisfaction.

The incident serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of air travel and the potential cascading effects of delays on passengers’ itineraries. IndiGo’s swift response in issuing a refund reflects their acknowledgment of the gravity of the situation and a commitment to mitigating the impact on disgruntled travelers.

He went on to elaborate, stating, “Around 12:20 am, I made the decision to cancel my original flight and opt for a direct flight from CCU to SFO. The process of canceling the flight and retrieving my checked-in luggage from the IndiGo team took a substantial two hours, concluding at 2:20 am. Throughout this duration, I encountered resistance from the airline personnel who contended, ‘We won’t facilitate cancellations,’ engaging in a dispute with me.”

In a subsequent tweet, Das expressed frustration, stating, “Had I been informed upon my arrival at the airport, I could have easily opted for the Akasa Air flight scheduled to depart at 9:50 pm, reaching my destination from Bengaluru to San Francisco at 3:30 am. While I understand that flight delays are inevitable, the manner in which the team handled the situation is unforgivable. There was a complete lack of consideration for other people’s time and financial investments.”

Following the surge in popularity of tweets detailing his travel ordeal, IndiGo took swift action by reimbursing the entire ticket cost. In their official response, the airline expressed regret, stating, “Sir, we sincerely regret the inconvenience. This is not the experience we aim to provide. We are aware of how important your travel arrangements are. We’ve also repaid you in full, which you’ll receive between 5-7 business days.”

In response to this, Das conveyed his appreciation for the prompt reply and phone call, saying, “Thank you for responding and calling on the phone. I appreciate that! I wish you did that before I tweeted, not in response. And I never boarded the flight and cancelled at the airport itself, so I expected a refund already.”

The airline has conveyed its regrets, stating, “Regrettably, the departure of the flight has experienced a delay attributed to operational reasons. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and assure our valued passengers that we are committed to enhancing our service to provide a more seamless and improved experience in the future.”
