Feras Qartoumy’s Vette has a sequential transmission, 1,300 horsepower – and oh, no traction control.

Tsukuba Circuit is a well-known racing venue appreciated by many motorsports enthusiasts, owing to its significant presence in both the Forza Motorsports and Gran Turismo gaming franchises. If you’ve virtually navigated its twists and turns, you’re likely familiar with its compact layout, presenting a deceptive challenge with its combination of lengthy, sweeping bends and intricate hairpin turns.

In simpler terms, anyone acquainted with this course would anticipate that piloting a 2,640-pound C6 Corvette, sporting a carbon-kevlar body and powered by a 427-cubic-inch, 1,300-horsepower V8, would prove to be quite demanding. And indeed, that expectation holds true!

In this particular footage, Feras Qartoumy puts his World Time Attack-modified C6 through a couple of test laps at Tsukuba Circuit, quickly realizing an issue with the malfunctioning traction control. During the initial minute of the video, before the tires reach optimal temperature, it’s evident that the tires lose grip entirely on straightaways in second gear. If further proof of the car’s challenging nature is needed, observe Qartoumy skillfully maneuvering the C6 sideways through nearly every corner.

Nevertheless, even with the tires only slightly warmed up, he manages to clock an exceptionally fast time for a shakedown. A swift glance at the video’s duration during his second lap reveals a lap time hovering around 54 seconds. This is approximately two seconds shy of the Tsukuba lap record for a Formula Three car, an impressive feat considering the Corvette is technically classified as a production vehicle.

This performance aligns with the ‘Vette’s capabilities. When Qartoumy participated in the Global Time Attack at Circuit of the Americas, he achieved a time of 2:03.850, surpassing a NASCAR cup car lap time by roughly ten seconds. According to Qartoumy’s Instagram, he boasts records at 28 different tracks. Whether Tsukuba is the next conquest on his agenda remains uncertain, but it appears that if he decides to pursue a record there, he stands a formidable chance of achieving it.
