In response to advocate Anirudh Pandey’s representation on behalf of candidates, the Allahabad High Court has called for an explanation from the Uttar Pradesh government and the Police Recruitment Board regarding the five-year age limit relaxation for the ongoing Police Constable Recruitment 2023. This move follows demands from candidates for age relaxation, citing the recruitment gap of the last five years.
Notably, the Uttar Pradesh Police Recruitment and Promotion Board is concluding the application process for UPPBPB UP Police Constable posts tomorrow, with the deadline for application fee payment set for January 18, 2024. The recent recruitment drive for 60,244 constables prompted requests for age limit relaxation from candidates, who argued that the recruitment hiatus over the past five years justifies a concession of two to four years from the state government. Subsequently, 29 individuals filed a petition seeking age relaxation.
In 2017, the Uttar Pradesh government assured the Supreme Court of recruiting 30,000 individuals annually from 2017 to 2020. However, this commitment remained unfulfilled as the recruitment process remained on hold for the last five years.
Advocate Anirudh Pandey argued that this situation violates the constitutional right to equality of opportunity in public employment. The government recently announced a five-year relaxation in constable and sub-inspector recruitment under the sports quota. Pandey contends that a similar relaxation should be extended to other candidates applying for constable positions in the UP government.
The application window for UP Police Constable Recruitment opened on December 27, and eligible candidates are urged to apply online promptly through the official website at uppbpb.gov.in. Additionally, a Rs 400 application fee, payable online through Debit Card/Credit Card/Internet Banking/UPI while filling out the form, is required.
