Argentine soccer icon Lionel Messi, along with former Barcelona teammates Luis Suarez and Sergio Busquets, faced a 1-0 defeat for their new team, Miami, in a pre-season friendly against Dallas. The trio was substituted after 64 minutes of play, with Miami trailing.
Messi showcased his skills during the match, creating several opportunities, including a powerful 30-yard volley that Dallas goalkeeper Maarten Paes managed to parry in the early stages of the second half. In the first half, Messi nearly set up a goal for Suarez, but the Uruguayan’s volley missed the target.
Dallas secured the lead in the game after just three minutes when US international striker Jesus Ferreira skillfully maneuvered past Miami defender Noah Allen and netted a low angled shot past goalkeeper Drake Callender.
This match marked the second in a series of pre-season friendlies for Miami as they gear up for the start of the new MLS season, scheduled for February 21 against Real Salt Lake. Following this game, Miami will travel to Saudi Arabia for a fixture against Al-Hilal on January 29, followed by a match against Al-Nassr on February 1, where Messi is expected to face his old rival Cristiano Ronaldo.
The team will then head to Asia for friendlies against a Hong Kong select team in the Chinese territory on February 4, followed by a match against Japanese side Vissel Kobe in Tokyo three days later. The pre-season journey concludes with a final game against Argentine squad Newell’s Old Boys on February 15 back in the United States.
