We recently had the opportunity to ride Aprilia India’s budget-friendly and compact motorcycle, the RS 457, at the Kari Motor Speedway. Our interaction with the bike was relatively short. Below, we share our initial impressions from our inaugural ride on the Aprilia RS 457.
It is evident that the RS457 draws design inspiration from its larger counterpart, the RS 660. The bodywork features numerous cuts and creases, giving the bike a sharp appearance and making it a suitable tool for the racetrack.
Overall, the Aprilia RS457 is quite enticing and would appeal to a younger audience as well as the ones eager to ride it on the race track.
Powering the Aprilia RS457 is a 457cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine. It develops 47.6bhp and 43.5Nm and is linked to a six-speed gearbox. The RS457 also benefits from a slipper clutch.
The Aprilia RS457’s engine is characterful and accelerates gradually unlike its Austrian rival. It has a strong bottom-end grunt and feels tractable even in the third gear while being ridden at speeds as low as 20kmph.
While there are mild vibrations, they aren’t a bother. Then, the likable on the RS 457 is also complimented by a responsive chassis. We like how the bike handled itself around the race track and are eager to test it on Indian roads as well.
The RS457 rides on preload adjustable USD front forks and a monoshock, while the braking hardware includes a front and rear disc with dual-channel ABS. This is where the bike needs improvement as it could with more bite and overall better stopping power.
Not to mention, Aprilia has also equipped it with a slew of features, including LED illumination, TFT with smartphone connectivity, ride-by-wire, three ride modes, traction control, and engine maps. Now, we will get to test these thoroughly once the RS457 arrives for a proper road test.
