Dwayne Johnson, popularly known as “The Rock,” is set to legally own his iconic wrestling nickname under a new agreement with the WWE. Additionally, Johnson will join the board of TKO Group, the sports and entertainment company that houses WWE and UFC. The moniker “The Rock” has familial significance, deriving from Johnson’s father, WWE Hall of Famer Rocky Johnson, the first Black champion in WWE history alongside Tony Atlas.

The multitalented Johnson, known for his roles in both wrestling and Hollywood, boasts a diverse business portfolio, including production company Seven Bucks Productions, tequila brand Teremana Tequila, energy drink company ZOA Energy, Project Rock apparel brand, and the United Football League.

Expressing his motivation to contribute to the global expansion of TKO, WWE, and UFC, Johnson emphasized his commitment to supporting athletes and performers in their endeavors. His appointment to the board aligns with TKO Group Holdings Inc.’s dedication to delivering long-term value and strong performance across UFC and WWE.

Dwayne Johnson’s wrestling journey began with WWE in 1996, where he gained fame through rivalries with iconic wrestlers like “Stone Cold” Steve Austin and Triple H. With eight WWE championships, bestselling books, and blockbuster movies such as “Fast X,” “Black Adam,” and “Jungle Cruise,” Johnson has established himself as a global entertainment phenomenon.

Recent appearances on WWE’s “Smackdown” and “Raw” have fueled speculation about Johnson potentially competing at WrestleMania this year. TKO’s CEO, Ariel Emanuel, expressed excitement about partnering with Dwayne Johnson, citing his track record in content creation and brand building. Johnson’s addition, along with entrepreneur Brad Keywell, will expand TKO’s board from 11 to 13 members.

The announcement of WWE’s weekly television show “Raw” moving to Netflix in a major streaming deal contributed to a 20% surge in TKO Group’s shares at the opening bell.
