Storm Jocelyn may not equal Storm Isha that battered UK earlier this week but train services across England and Scotland still face suspensions or cancellations

The recent tempest, named Jocelyn, which lashed the United Kingdom on Tuesday and during the night, is currently advancing eastward, causing disturbances to travel and energy infrastructure in the northwest part of Europe.

The national meteorological service of Germany, DWD, has cautioned that coastal regions might encounter gusts resembling those of a hurricane. Meanwhile, amber and yellow wind advisories persist for the majority of the UK on Wednesday. Similar alerts have been issued for the Netherlands, France, and Belgium.

In continental Europe, the Wilhelmshaven liquefied natural terminal in Germany disclosed a temporary halt in fuel distribution to the grid on Wednesday, attributing it to adverse weather conditions. Additionally, LNG terminals in the UK have experienced delays in unloading vessels.

The UK remains one of the regions most heavily impacted by the recent series of Atlantic storms, resulting in significant disruptions to power networks and infrastructure, persisting for multiple days. Although Jocelyn is not anticipated to attain the intensity witnessed with Storm Isha earlier in the week, rail services in England and Scotland are still grappling with suspensions and cancellations.

Projections indicate that Germany’s wind power output will reach an all-time high later on Wednesday. A Bloomberg model estimates that production from numerous turbines will peak at 54,460 megawatts at 3 p.m. The prior record, achieved just before Christmas, stood at 53,022 megawatts. As of 8 a.m. in Berlin, actual output reached 49,861 megawatts, as per EEX data on Bloomberg.

Following a period of frigid temperatures last week, the recent Atlantic storms have ushered in notably warmer conditions across the region. London is expected to reach 12.5C on Wednesday, while Paris is forecasted to climb to 14C, according to data from Maxar Technologies Inc.

Forecasters predict that average temperature departures will range from 4C to 9C above normal across continental Europe and the Iberian Peninsula.
