Even if you can afford to pay $43,000 USD, you’ll first have to earn your right to buy one.

There’s an abundance of unique WRX editions in Japan, and Subaru has recently introduced yet another variant. The WRX S4 STI Sport maintains the distinctive plastic cladding while integrating several new sporty upgrades. It’s not a complete STI model, lacking any power enhancements. However, the more assertive body kit is accompanied by fresh 19-inch BBS forged wheels on both axles.

Coated in Offshore Blue Metallic, borrowed from the non-U.S.-bound Levorg STI Sport wagon, the performance sedan rolls on Michelin Pilot Sport 5 tires sized at 245/35 R19. It stands out with numerous black accents for the grille, side mirror caps, and trunk lid spoiler. Even a majority of the badges, along with the roof antenna, feature a darker aesthetic.

Interior modifications are confined to a set of snug Recaro front seats featuring red STI logos embroidered on the headrests. Additionally, silver stitching has been applied throughout the cabin for a subtle touch of refinement. The suede material present on the seats extends to the center console, armrests, and the dashboard, creating a cohesive and luxurious ambiance. Subaru highlights that the interior now boasts enhanced tranquility, thanks to the incorporation of additional damping material in the spare tire compartment.

The powertrain remains consistent with the same turbocharged 2.4-liter gasoline engine, delivering a robust 271 horsepower and 277 pound-feet of torque. This power is seamlessly transmitted to all four wheels through a continuously variable transmission. While there are no substantial changes in power output, Subaru has introduced mechanical revisions. Alongside the wheels, the WRX S4 STI Sport showcases reinforced strut and sway bars, coupled with an upgraded transmission cooler for improved performance.

The exclusivity of the WRX special edition is underscored by its limited production to just 500 units. Subaru foresees a surge in demand surpassing the available supply, leading to the adoption of a lottery system. Prospective buyers in Japan, the sole market for the S4 STI Sport, can acquire a ticket starting today until the 28th of the month. The fortunate recipients, granted the chance to purchase the vehicle, will be disclosed on February 1.
