“Twenty-seven passengers made the decision to remain in France while a grounded plane returned to India. The reasons behind their choice and the circumstances surrounding their stayback are yet to be disclosed.”

“New Delhi: More than two dozen passengers, originally on a charter plane held in France for days due to suspected human trafficking, chose to remain in France even as the aircraft departed for Mumbai following legal clearances.

Among the passengers staying back are 20 adults and five minors who have applied for asylum in France, according to a local official. The nationality of these individuals has not been disclosed. Their asylum applications will undergo processing at the Paris airport.

Under international law, asylum seekers cannot be forcibly returned to their country of origin.”

“Two individuals who were questioned by French police on suspicion of trafficking also opted to stay in France. However, their lawyer disclosed that they have received expulsion orders from France.

The release of these individuals came after law enforcement authorities were convinced that they had voluntarily boarded the flight. Reports suggest that their lawyer credited the judge for resisting media pressure in the case, leading to their release.

The aircraft, owned by Romania’s Legend Airlines, successfully landed in Mumbai early this morning with 276 passengers, following approval from a French judge. Departing from Vatry around 2:30 pm (local time), the plane reached Mumbai shortly after 4 am (IST).

The exact number of Indian passengers among the 276 and the nationalities of the remaining flyers remain unknown.”
